Media Release - 13 October 2008An open letter to all Victorian MPs The Family Council of Victoria is appalled that the Victorian government has passed the Abortion Law Reform Bill, effectively legalising abortion up to full term, The indiscriminate taking of innocent human life should be abhorrent to any civilized society. So what does the passing of this Bill say about our values and our society? It tells society that it is now acceptable to kill the unborn for ANY reason. We thank those MPs in both Houses of Parliament who tried very hard to stop this travesty happening by voting against this Bill. Yet we are astounded that a majority of Victorian MPs could decide this Bill was acceptable, and even more so when the Labor government would not even accept amendments aimed at protecting women from coercion and giving them full disclosure of the facts. How could politicians be so cavalier about respect for human life and the rights of those who exercise a conscientious objection to induced abortion? The Family Council is also very concerned that the government and the VLRC have ignored the majority of submissions to the VLRC on the matter of abortion law reform? This begs the question, just who are the majority of MPs in our Parliament serving? Clearly not the unborn, and clearly not women. It is obvious that a philosophical ideology called ‘self’ has ruled the day in the thinking of too many MPs We find it increasingly disturbing that a majority of those elected to represent us could engage in this type of social engineering and think it is acceptable. We will therefore do all in our power to inform Victorian voters which MPs supported this unjust and intolerable Bill.
